HUD
Rescue Scam Grant
The foreclosure crisis brought about a new type of
scam. In Foreclosure Rescue Scams, a
person or company promises to help you when you are behind in your mortgage or
facing foreclosure, but there is a price to be paid. Rescue scammers might promise to get you a
loan modification or stop a foreclosure, but only after you have paid them a
fee. They might ask you to sign the deed
to your house over to them. They may
pretend to be a part of a government organization or government loan
program. Most of the time, they don’t do
anything to help you, even after you have paid them.
