Things to Think About
Divorces
can be complicated and there can be a lot on the line. It is always
best to talk to a lawyer. These forms are designed to help people who
cannot afford a lawyer and have a low risk divorce. Before continuing, ask yourself these four questions:
- Do you own any real estate, including your home?
- Do you have a 401(K), and IRA, or other retirement account, including PERS or VA benefits?
- Are you entitled to a pension when you retire?
- Do you think that you may be entitled to spousal support (aka alimony)?
If
either you or your spouse would answer "yes" to any of the above, you
should make every effort to hire an attorney.
Requesting Attorney Fees
If you have been married for a long time, and if your spouse has
significantly more income than you do, it is possible that the Court may
order your spouse to provide you with the funds to hire an attorney.
If you think this is an option that may apply to your situation, please
call SEOLS at 800-686-3668 and tell the intake staff member that you are
seeking assistance in filing a "Request for Attorneys Fees in a
Divorce" so we can evaluate your case further.

Divorces
with children can be especially complicated. These forms are designed
for people that cannot afford a lawyer and who have simple cases where
there won't be a custody fight. Even in these cases, it is always best
to talk to a lawyer. If you have not done
so already, we strongly urge you to contact your local office of
Southeastern Ohio Legal Services® for a more detailed analysis of your
situation. If SEOLS is unable to offer you further assistance, we
recommend that you contact a private attorney. If you have consulted
with SEOLS and at least two private attorneys, and have decided that
you wish to pursue your case on your own, select the county where your case was filed to continue
